How do I get old mildew stains/spots out of nylon/canvas?

I purchsed a used bike trailer for my son to ride in when we are biking this summer. The only thing wrong with it, were some mildew stains on the nylon straps and some on the front of the trailer where it is canvas. I have tried multiple strategies, and none seem to work. Any ideas?
